Abstract

The article proposes a taxonomy of semantic relations as an instrument for the systematic description of lexical meanings. In addition to direct and indirect onymic relations, semic relations (relations between meanings of one and the same word) will also be discussed and their descriptive power will be illustrated with historical examples.
